The Sunnyside Social Club is a 5 piece powerhouse combining influences stemming from New Orleans blues, Jazz, Swing, Gypsy Punk and Latin music. Formed underneath the 7 train in Sunnyside, Queens as a busking act originally called “Yo, Gimme a dolla’!”, the band quickly became a favorite of locals and started performing as a solid act at various events and venues all over the tri state area.
The Sunnyside Social Club combines unique instrumentation – upbeat marching drums, growly nasty trumpet solos, soulful blues accordion, upright bass, guitar, tuba and the fearless singing of Smidge Malone belting his Louie Armstrong-esque croon through a megaphone. The band plays music about everything from unrequited love songs, to classic blues, New Orleans standards, and reworked pop songs.
